The LIFE SPAN series has been one of my favorite creations under Sacred. LIFE SPAN is about the places that shape us. It’s stories from people who have found their own path and relationship to the game. In the organized basketball world in which the continued success of a young athlete demands being seen by people who are willing to invest in your future, I like to think of LIFE SPAN as proof of a multiverse. There can be a lack of imagination when it comes to defining why we play the game. Not everyone wants to be in the NBA or WNBA, or even play at the college level. Some of us, always knew we never would have that chance. But, we love the game still and we keep it in our lives to see what it might reveal about us and our creative path. LIFE SPAN is a space for those stories.
This edition was written by @doublerimslim, a photographer and videographer out of Baltimore, MD. His work first caught my eye when he shared a weathered hoop with the FILA logo on the backboard. It was a true relic. His work tells a story of Baltimore. It challenges some of our ideas about Baltimore to where it feels as though even if the city is not the greatest at maintaining the infrastructure, there is a community respect for public spaces that delays a potential ruin. The hoops and courts he finds have history, but he rarely presents a sense of decay. Instead it often looks more like resilience. Give him a follow.
